Simplified models including eddy currents for laminated structures

Abstract: Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to present a comparative analysis concerning the influence of eddy currents on the distribution of the magnetic flux density in the laminated anisotropic structures. Design/methodology/approach -The influence of the magnetic flux normal to the lamination surface is particularly analysed. Several models containing internal air gaps and overlapping are tested. For every structure, the eddy currents are first taken into account and then, they are neglected. At last, the 3D si… Show more

“…Such an approximation will inevitably cause some inaccuracies, as although the component perpendicular to the sheets is typically only a few percent (5%-8%) of the tangential components, it travels through large areas. Comprehensive analysis of the influence of the normal and tangential fluxes on the magnetic field distribution in various laminated structures has been undertaken by the authors in their previous publication [19]. Moreover, the homogenization of the material and the introduction of equivalent anisotropic characteristics make it possible to use the method in combination with commercial software where modifications to the source code are normally not available.…”
