We study the quantitative features of dark matter pair production at the LHC in simplified dark matter models and in the MSSM taking next-to-leading order QCD corrections and parton-shower effects fully into account. Among the large space of dark matter models, we focus on two particular models where a fermionic dark matter candidate interacts with the Standard Model via the exchange of either a vector mediator in the s-channel or coloured scalar mediators in the t-channel. We find that the simplified models are capable of reproducing the predictions of the MSSM to some extent in simplified supersymmetric scenarios, but lack the complexity to describe the complete theory over the full supersymmetric parameter space.

A universal framework for t-channel dark matter models

We present the model implementation in FeynRules, which aims to offer a unique general framework allowing for all simulations relevant for simplified t-channel dark matter models at colliders and for the complementary cosmology calculations. We describe how to match next-to-leading-order QCD fixed-order calculations with parton showers to derive robust bounds and predictions in the context of LHC dark matter searches, and moreover validate two model restrictions (relevant for Dirac and Majorana fermionic dark matter respectively) to exemplify how to evaluate dark matter observables to constrain the model parameter space. More importantly, we emphasise how to achieve these results by using a combination of publicly available automated tools, and discuss how dark matter predictions are sensitive to the model file and software setup. Characterizing Higgs portal dark matter models at the ILC

We study the dark matter (DM) discovery prospect and its spin discrimination in the theoretical framework of gauge invariant and renormalizable Higgs portal DM models at the ILC with √ s = 500 GeV. In such models, the DM pair is produced in association with a Z boson. In the case of the singlet scalar DM, the mediator is just the SM Higgs boson, whereas for the fermion or vector DM there is an additional singlet scalar mediator that mixes with the SM Higgs boson, which produces significant observable differences. After careful investigation of the signal and backgrounds both at parton level and at detector level, we find the signal with hadronically decaying Z boson provides a better search sensitivity than the signal with leptonically decaying Z boson. Taking the fermion DM model as a benchmark scenario, when the DM-mediator coupling g χ is relatively small, the DM signals are discoverable only for benchmark points with relatively light scalar mediator H 2 . The spin discriminating from scalar DM is always promising, while it is difficult to discriminate from vector DM. As for g χ approaching the perturbative limit, benchmark points with the mediator H 2 in the full mass region of interest are discoverable. The spin discriminating aspects from both the scalar and the fermion DM are quite promising.
