Simplified acute physiology score II and Mannheim peritonitis index are associated with in-hospital mortality in patients with abdominal sepsis admitted to ICU

Abstract: Objective:The objective of this study was to assess the association and interaction of laboratory parameters, Simplified Acute Physiology Score II (SAPSII), Modified Shock Index (MSI), and Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) with in-hospital mortality. Material and methods:We conducted a single-center case-control study. Adult patients with abdominal sepsis were included from May 2015 to May 2020. Baseline characteristics, laboratory parameters, SAPSII, MSI, and MPI scores at admission were collected. A principal… Show more

“…The study included demographic characteristics and clinical characteristics with 24-hour average values. The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, 18 and Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) II, 19 were calculated within the first 24 hours after the ICU admission. We collected the following clinical information of each patient: demographics, laboratory measurements, vital signs, ethnicity, admission type, need of support, comorbidities at ICU admission, severity of illness, sedative-analgesic medications use, AKI stage, sepsis, antibiotic use, glucocorticoid use(table 1).…”

“…Recognized scales are PIPAS [4], WSES Sepsis Severity Score (WSSS) [8], Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) [9], Peritonitis Index Altona [10], Combined Peritonitis Score [11]. These scales assess only the degree of organ dysfunction, the severity of AP and the possibility of a patient's death [12][13][14][15][16][17]. However, these scales do not assess the risk of certain complications.…”

“…Найвідомішими й найбільш інформативними вважають шкали PIPAS [4], WSES Sepsis Severity Score (WSSS) [8], Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) [9]. Однак суттєвими спільними недоліками є те, що вказані шкали дають змогу уніфікувати оцінювання тільки тяжкості ГП і, відповідно, ризик смерті хворих [10][11][12][13]. Водночас оцінювання за їхньою допомогою ризику виникнення окремих ПОУ не передбачено.…”
