Simple visual reaction time in badminton players: A comparative study

Abstract: Background: Adequate sports activity improves health and physical development by increasing muscle strength, alertness, sensory development, muscle coordination, speed, strength, and stamina. Many researches show that sports activity reduces reaction time, which is a reliable indicator of rate of processing of sensory stimuli by central nervous system. So the present study is undertaken to evaluate effect of playing badminton on reaction time. Aims & Objective: To compare visual reaction times of badminton pla… Show more

“…The level of results obtained for this ability depends on numerous factors, e.g. age, the type of stimulus (visual, auditory, complex), training experience and the stage of training [18,30,31,32,33]. This study found that the results of young badminton players are improving for consecutive training categories, which is caused by developmental processes and sportspecific training.…”

“…The morphofunctional model of juniors also included coordination abilities: mean choice reaction time, spatial orientation, coupled motions, and kinaesthetic differ entiation of temporal movement parameters. The im portance of visualmotor coordination and reaction time for the game was also confirmed in comparative studies [14,16,[28][29][30]. Furthermore, their role in teaching technique has been discussed by Mooney and Mutrie [31], and Sakurai and ohtsuki [32].…”

“…For this reason, players must have a high level of divisibility of attention, precision and accuracy of movements, speed of movements and spatial orientation and anticipation [31]. Among the identified coordination motor abilities, the most frequently analysed were reaction time levels of badminton players relative to comparative groups, mostly non-athlete peers or competitors from other sports [3,5,9,34]. The literature review shows that badminton players have better reaction times compared to non-athletes from control groups.…”
