Simple method to rapidly fabricate chain-like carbon nanotube films and its field emission properties

Abstract: A simple process to fabricate chain-like carbon nanotube (CNT) films by microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) was developed successfully. Prior to deposition, the Ti/Al 2 O 3 substrates were ground with Fe-doped SiO 2 powder. The nano-structure of the deposited films was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Raman spectroscopy. The field electron emission characteristics of the chain-like carbon nanotube films were measured under the v… Show more

“…2c and d) confirmed the presence of carbon nanofilaments of different structures and sizes but were mostly composed of multi-walled carbon nanotubes categorized as bamboo-like 36 and chain-like . 37,38 Although the formation of bamboo-like structures is mainly associated with the doping of graphene sheets, 39 some studies have shown the formation of such structures in undoped CNTs. 38,40–42 This process was associated with the movement of the catalyst and the carbon atoms during the nucleation.…”
