Simple method for simultaneously measuring the magnitude and direction of 2D in-plane displacement in white-light speckle photography

Abstract: A simple method for simultaneously measuring the magnitude and direction (or argument) of a 2D in-plane displacement vector is presented. The theoretical mechanism for extracting the desired displacement signal from random noises produced by the nonoverlapping area of the recorded specklegrams of the test specimen surface is derived in detail.
