Silver nanoparticles enhanced luminescence properties of Er3+ doped tellurite glasses: Effect of heat treatment

Abstract: Articles you may be interested inEnergy transfer characteristics of silicate glass doped with Er3+, Tm3+, and Ho3+ for 2μm emission Tellurite glasses doped Er 3þ ions and containing Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) are prepared using melt quenching technique. The nucleation and growth of Ag NPs were controlled by a thermal annealing process. The X-ray diffraction pattern shows no sharp peak indicating an amorphous nature of the glasses. The presence of Ag NPs is confirmed from transmission electron microscopy mic… Show more

“…This fact affirms that more Er cations get dissolve in the glass matrix and diminishes the distance between adjacent Er cations. This in turn increases the repulsive force between neighboring Er cations and therefore enhances Ω 6 [43]. The observed AT dependent variation in J-O intensity parameters in the present glasses are attributed to the site-to-site variation, modification in asymmetry around erbium ions and alteration of glass rigidity.…”

“…parameter Ω 4 has an effect on some transitions of Er 3+ together with Ω 6 , such as the 4 I 13/2 → 4 I 15/2 transition [43]. According to Jacobs and Weber theory [44] the erbium emission intensity can be characterized uniquely by Ω 4 and Ω 6 parameters.…”

“…Silver LSPR peak has been observed above 500 nm in [22,34]. In tellurite matrix with its refractive index of approximately 2, LSPR band shifts to higher wavelengths in comparison to silicate glasses [20].…”

“…In order to avoid such concentration quenching, keeping a moderate RE doped level meanwhile introducing the metallic Au or Ag nanoparticles (NPs), which can greatly enhance RE ions radiative transitions, has been proposed in recent years [17,18]. As reported, a large enhancement in luminescence intensities of Er 3+ -doped [19,20], Eu 3+ -doped [21,22], Nd 3+ -doped [23,24] glasses containing metallic NPs, for example, are observed owing to the enhanced localized field around the RE ions as well as the possible energy transfer from the metallic NPs to RE ions [25,26]. The metallic NPs are obtained by means of reduction of Ag ions (Ag + ?…”
