Silver Nanoparticles as a New Solid-Phase Adsorbent and Its Application to Preconcentration and Determination of Lead from Biological Samples

Abstract: A new, simple, and fast method for preconcentration and determination of trace amount of lead from biological samples was developed by modified silver nanoparticle-based solid-phase extraction technique and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. In this study, morin was used as a complexing agent. Some factors influencing the recovery of lead including pH, sample flow rate, type, flow rate, and least amount of the eluent for elution of the lead from silver nanoparticles were studied and optimized. Un… Show more

“…Other reported methods do provide slightly better LODs [3,31] but all of these approaches require a combination of two steps: a urine digestion procedure followed by a preconcentration stage. The LOD obtained for Pb is better than or similar to those obtained in other ETAAS Pb determination methods [2,4,5,30,[32][33][34]. Only the method reported by Sung and Huang [3] gave a clearly better LOD (5 ng L −1 ), but in this case a sophisticated laboratory-made flow injection on-line preconcentration system was employed after sample digestion.…”

“…In the last two decades, metal and oxide nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted much attention owing to their unique size- and shape-dependent physical, chemical, catalytic, and biological properties and extensive application prospects in modern industries and medicine (Dzido et al 2008 ; Manoth et al 2009 ; Rai et al 2009 ; Kundu et al 2009a , b ); Khajeh and Sanchooli 2011 ; Sharma et al 2011 ; Wang et al 2012 ; Breitwieser et al 2013 ; Kundu and Jayachandran 2013 ; Bryaskova et al 2014 ; Wu et al 2014 ). For this reason, the effective processes of the large-scale production of size-controlled NPs are of major importance (Kundu et al 2009c ; Aksomaityte et al 2013 ; Yang et al 2013 ).…”

“…The demands of chemical analysis in modern biology, environmental science, chemistry, medicine, and industry need very high sample throughput and parallel analytical strategies [119][120][121][122][123]. While the increasing role of AgNPs in separation and pre-concentration science is evident, the future will need greater control over their size and composition.…”
