“…A high‐resolution XPS spectrum in the Ag 3d region was acquired from the bio‐AgNP sample (Figure (b)) in order to identify the valence state of the sample. Peaks were observed at binding energies of 373.5 ± 0.1 eV and 367.5 ± 0.1 eV, and were attributed to Ag 3d 3/2 and Ag 3d 5/2 , respectively; the nearly ±6 eV splitting of the 3d doublet of Ag indicated the presence of the Ag 0 state in the bio‐AgNPs . From the XPS analysis, however, it was not possible to determine whether metal oxide particles as well as metallic Ag particles were present or metallic particles were covered with a thin layer of oxide or both situations co‐existed.…”

“…38 It has been reported that Lys and TA formed a compound in both solution and LBL films onto the substrate. 39,40 In our case, the growth of multilayer was primarily ascribed to the interaction between Lys and TA, where the TA attached onto GO and GO was integrated into the coating with TA. This hypothesis can be further proved by the designed control experiments.…”

“…There are several published studies on Ag-embedded multilayer systems. 7178 These studies presented results of an antibacterial effect, but only for a maximum of 48 h. In contrast, by dint of long-term tests carried out under flow conditions, antimicrobial activity could be demonstrated for at least eight days in the case of two Ag-multilayers. This is of significance when considering incorporation into indwelling medical devices, which are susceptible to colonization by different bacterial strains, 7981 and post-surgical implant-infections.…”
