“…The alkaline characteristic of SDF helps counteract this. (19) SDF has been shown in several research to have no effect on the binding strength of various restorative materials to dentine. Other research, on the other hand, indicated that SDF has the ability to weaken the dentine connection.…”

“…Because of the presence of fluoride, SDF raises mineral content and hence enhances the microhardness of the stopped carious lesion. (19) Dentine's organic matrix is broken down by microbial collagenases, matrix metalloproteinases, and cysteine cathepsins, which break down type I collagen. (20) In an acidic environment, these enzymes can be triggered.…”

“…A su vez, la toxicidad de las NP de plata afecta principalmente a las mitocondrias, ya que induce la liberación mitocondrial de citocromo c en el citosol, lo que simultáneamente resulta en una pérdida del potencial de membrana mitocondrial activando así la vía intrínseca de la muerte celular programada (30). Debido a que, la capacidad genotóxica de las NP de plata también ha sido demostrada mediante experimentos in vivo e in vitro que evidenciaron la fragmentación del ADN tras la exposición a NP de plata.…”

“…In past decades, silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been used as an alternative treatment for caries arrest. , The caries-arresting ability of SDF is thought to derive from the combination of potent germicidal effects from silver ions and the solidification effect of fluoride by replacing the hydroxyl groups in hydroxyapatite (HAp) to form fluoride apatite (FAp). , Hence, the combined effects of bacteriostasis and remineralization have been hypothesized to have the ability to halt caries progression and simultaneously prevent the development of new caries. However, safety is a critical issue in the clinical application of SDF, and the cytotoxicity of both silver ions and fluoride should not be ignored. In addition, several adverse effects are associated with the application of SDF, and these effects include pulp irritation, tooth staining, and oral soft tissue irritation, which can cause dissatisfaction among patients. , Furthermore, in the absence of mineral ions such as calcium ions (Ca 2+ ) and phosphate (PO 4 3– ), it is difficult to rapidly and effectively regenerate HAp crystals on the surface of demineralized enamel and dentin, which causes the structure of the enamel prism and dentinal tubules (DTs) to remain exposed to the external environment . Therefore, it is highly desired to identify an ideal candidate with stable mineral ion sources that can safely control biofilms.…”
