The efficient degradation of a toxic antibiotic from an aqueous solution is essential for environmental protection. Our research aimed to fabricate a bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) catalyst via a facile hydrothermal method. The prepared catalyst exhibited a monoclinic phase with a band gap energy of 2.33 eV, indicating the excellent visible-light-active properties of a semiconductor. The photocatalytic performance of the synthesized BiVO4 catalyst was studied by determining the removal of tetracycline (TC) and oxytetracycline (OTC) antibiotics. After 240 min, under sunlight conditions, a high performance of 72% and 83% degradation of TC and OTC, respectively, was achieved. The photocatalytic degradation of the antibiotics correlates well with a first-order reaction, with a high rate constant of 0.0102 min−1. Photogenerated electrons and holes played an important role in the removal of the pollutant. After photocatalytic study, the structural stability of the prepared bismuth vanadate photocatalyst was confirmed. The photocatalyst provided a promising performance even after five successive runs. The result indicates the excellent cycling ability of the sample. The present work demonstrates a promising route for the preparation of a BiVO4 catalyst for the complete removal of toxic antibiotics in aqueous solutions.

This study introduces a merlinoite synthesized from sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) and kaolin and evaluates its application as an adsorbent to remove lead from wastewater. The synthesis was performed via the hydrothermal method, and optimal conditions were determined. The adsorption of Pb by merlinoite was also optimized. Determination of the Pb2+ remaining in the aqueous solution was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). Adsorption isotherms were mainly studied using the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The Langmuir model showed the highest consistency for Pb adsorption on merlinoite, yielding a high correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9997 and a maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of 322.58 mg/g. The kinetics of the adsorption process were best described by a pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic studies carried out at different temperatures established that the adsorption reaction was spontaneous and endothermic. The results of this study show that merlinoite synthesized from kaolinite and SBA is an excellent candidate for utilization as a high-performance adsorbent for lead removal from wastewater.

The stratified ZnO has been known to be an efficient photocatalyst. However, its morphological control is limited because of the strict conditions. In this study, the 3D flower-like ZnO was synthesized by the simple precipitation method. Its morphology was simply controlled by changes in NaOH and trisodium citrate dihydrate content and reaction temperature. Flower-like ZnO has been produced in different sizes and petals thicknesses with the variation of trisodium citrate dihydrate. Besides, at 0.25 M NaOH, the ZnO-1NaOH was 5 μm in size assembled from numerous petals with an average thickness of 13 nm. The morphology changed at higher NaOH content, it was observed as a triangular prism for the ZnO-2NaOH sample. While the reaction temperature changed the thickness of the petals. The plausible formation mechanism of flower structure was proposed. The catalytic activity of ZnO was demonstrated through the decomposition of tetracycline hydrochloride (THC) under visible light. In addition, the stability and photocatalytic mechanism of ZnO were studied.
