Silicone Rubber Composites Reinforced by Carbon Nanofillers and Their Hybrids for Various Applications: A Review

Abstract: Without fillers, rubber types such as silicone rubber exhibit poor mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Carbon black (CB) is traditionally used as a filler in the rubber matrix to improve its properties, but a high content (nearly 60 per hundred parts of rubber (phr)) is required. However, this high content of CB often alters the viscoelastic properties of the rubber composite. Thus, nowadays, nanofillers such as graphene (GE) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are used, which provide significant improveme… Show more

“…The control of polymers and polymer compositions' properties by regulating the structure of composition macromolecular components has been, and remains, the most important tool of chemists in their movement towards materials with superior properties [1,2]. Elastomeric materials based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) rubbers are now widely used as rubbers, sealants, and coatings for various purposes [3,4]. The majority of the practical applications of PDMS elastomers are not feasible without silica fillers [5][6][7].…”

“…Rubber-based composite materials, especially graphene rubber composite materials, have excellent flexible, thermoelectric, sensing, and morphologically controllable properties. These materials are ideal for smart, flexible, wearable electronic devices that have been studied by many researchers [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. However, a certain amount of electromagnetic interference (EMI) occurs between electronic products, which will affect the performance of this kind of device.…”
