“…The Ba1−xSrxCe0.8Y0.2O 3−ı powder was prepared by a modified Pechini method [33,34]. Starting materials Ba(NO3)2 (Alfa Aesar, 99.95%), Sr(NO3)2 (Alfa Aesar, 99%), Ce(NO3)3·6H2O (Alfa Aesar, 99.5%) and Y(NO3)3·6H2O (Alfa Aesar, 99.9%) were dissolved in deionized water and the nitrate concentration of the metal ions was determined through a titration method.…”

“…Such a result might suggest that nitric acid contributes to oxygen retention in the solids, possibly by a mechanism involving impaired migration of oxygen ions through the bulk. A related report has been made recently by Zhou et al, 36 who observed a significant detrimental effect of HNO 3 on oxygen permeation through a dense mixed metal oxide membrane employed as the cathode in solid oxide fuel cells. In this type of system, an oxygen molecule first adsorbs over the membrane surface on the oxygen-rich side, where it dissociates into oxygen ions and generates electron holes, both of which then migrate through the bulk to the other side of the membrane surface.…”

“…According to these authors, the use of nitric acid in the mixed metal oxide synthesis led to the decrease of crystallite size, increase of sintering during fabrication, and reduced surface oxygen exchange kinetics and bulk diffusion rate in the cell cathode. 36 This behaviour has been correlated with the higher sinterability of ceramics produced in the presence of HNO 3 , 36,37 which show lower grain porosity after heat treatment and a decreased effective surface area for reactions carried out after sintering.…”

“…20 First, EDTA (Riedel-de Haën, 98%) was mixed with 6 M NH 4 OH to form an NH 3 -EDTA solution, in which Sr(NO 3 ) 2 (Alfa Aesar, 99.0%), Ce(NO 3 ) 3 ·6H 2 O, and Zr(NO 3 ) 2 ·2H 2 O (Alfa Aesar, 99.0%), and Y(NO 3 ) 3 ·6H 2 O (J.T. Baker, 99.8%) were dissolved.…”

“…Iwahara et al [7,10] first reported proton conductivity in SrCeO 3 perovskite materials doped in a hydrogen-containing electrical properties and hydrogen permeation of SrCeO 3 . [18][19][20] When a portion of Ce 4+ is replaced with Y 3+ , oxygen vacancies are generated to maintain the charge neutrality, as follows:…”
