Determination of sex from human skeletal remains has always been a challenging task for Forensic experts, anthropologists etc. Bones can survive decomposition and decay for a very long time and therefore play a crucial role in identification of the deceased. The present study involved a total of 93 human sacra, of which 48 were of male sex and 45 are of female sex belonging to South Indian population. The Sacral Index for males was found to be 98.52 and for females 113.98. Females show higher Sacral Index compared to males. The study clearly proved Sacral Index as one of the highly dependable anthropological parameters for sex determination with respect to the studied population and therefore can be of a much reliable tool for Forensic medicine and Anthropological experts.
