Signatures of a 4π -periodic supercurrent in the voltage response of capacitively shunted topological Josephson junctions

Abstract: We investigate theoretical aspects of the detection of Majorana bound states in Josephson junctions using a semiclassical model of the junction. The influence of a 4π-periodic supercurrent contribution can be detected through its effect on the width of the Shapiro steps and the Fourier spectrum of the voltage. We explain how the inclusion of a capacitance term results in a strong quenching of the odd steps when the junction is underdamped, which may be used to effectively detect Majorana bound states. Furtherm… Show more

“…The influence of a capacitive term in the RSJ equation can be important at microwave frequencies, and can be easily accounted for in the RCSJ model (Resistively and Capacitively Shunted Junction). This has been investigated in a recent study [83], which demonstrates that I 4π can be overestimated with the above criterion even for small capacitances. Though it is difficult to estimate quantitatively C, it may explain the discrepancies on I 4π between theory and experiments.…”

“…More recent theories have revisited the fractional JE in the context of MZMs in hybrid structures combining conventional superconductors with topological insulators or semiconductor nanowires [440,448,494,495,496,497,498,499,500,501,502,503,504,505,506,507,455,508,509,510,457,511,512,513,514,515,516,517,518,519,520,521,522,523,524]. Theoretically, the 4π -periodic CPR (69) has been proposed for ferromagnetic weak links in quantum spin-Hall insulator/superconductor structures under assumption of the local fermion-parity conservation [440].…”
