Signaling in joint venture capital: a social network perspective

Abstract: Purpose Based on the theory of social networks, it is crucial to enhance information superiority through joint venture capital (VC). The purpose of this paper is to explore the impacts of different roles’ structural and relational embeddedness on the information superiority of joint VC alliances. Design/methodology/approach The authors design the multiple linear regression models to investigate the leader’s investment ratio from a network embeddedness perspective. Panel data analysis and robustness tests are… Show more

“…In the proposed model, we consider both dimensions of embeddedness to have an impact on the network rent in the triadic supply chain. The scope of embeddedness involves both its structural and relational dimensions, as the structural cannot exist apart from the relational, while the relational is not possible without the existence of the structural (Schoenherr et al , 2015; Wu et al , 2017).…”

“…We measure technical contributions by the number of projects that a focal project leader has been involved in. Regarding relation-oriented leadership behaviors embedded in internal/external social capital, we follow literature of network degree centrality (Ahuja et al , 2003; Daniel and Stewart, 2016; Wu et al , 2017; Wasko and Faraj, 2005). Specifically, Internal Social Capital is measured as the number of followers for a focal project leader on GitHub; External Social Capital is measured as the number of participants that the focal project leader follows proactively on GitHub.…”

“…Information management researchers have also increasingly devoted to understanding how various types of ties are formed in different digital platforms (e.g. Gu et al ., 2014; Hahn et al ., 2008; Kwon et al ., 2017; Wu et al ., 2017; Jiang et al ., 2018; Lin et al ., 2013; Liu et al ., 2015). Despite the importance of syndicate formation mechanisms to equity crowdfunding platforms, these mechanisms have not been sufficiently examined in the extant literature.…”
