Signal processing based damage detection of concrete bridge piers subjected to consequent excitations

Abstract: Damage detection at an early stage is of great importance especially for infrastructures since the cost of repair is considerably less than that of reconstruction. The change in stiffness and frequency could obviously indicate the occurrence of damage and its severity. Wavelet transform is a powerful mathematical tool for signal processing which provides more details compared to Fourier transform. In this paper, a model-free output-only wavelet-based damage detection analysis has been performed in order to ach… Show more

“…Aguirre et al explored the practicality of employing output-only model-free wavelet-based techniques to identify damages in reinforced concrete structures under seismic loads [11]. To obtain the perturbation regarding the precise performance of the acceleration response in the bridge piers, a model-free output-only wavelet-based damage detection methodology was proposed by Naderpour et al [12]. Employing a simplifed numerical model and in situ vibration measurement enables some degrees of freedom.…”

“…In 2016, Damage identification based on Peak Picking Method and Wavelet Packet Transform for structural equation has been used by Naderpour and Fakharian [22]. In 2017, a model-free output-only wavelet-based damage detection analysis was performed in order to achieve perturbation of detailed function of acceleration response in bridge piers [23]. It is worth to be noted that the safety measures of buildings in terms of structural reliability and probabilistic point of view were studied in different researches.…”

“…Bridges are the essential and strategic elements in structural engineering that undergo vibrations under operational conditions like the effects of traffic, wind and other low vibrations called ambient vibrations. It has been estimated that about 2.5 million bridges are operated by global transportation network all over the world [1]. Therefore, the required maintenance shall be applied during the life time of the bridges (Fig.…”
