Abstract: Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a common gastrointestinal emergency among neonates which is characterized by acute intestinal inflammation and necrosis. The main risk factors for NEC are prematurity, low birth weight, and some preexisting health conditions such as congenital heart defects (CHDs).
