Sideband intensities in NMR spectra of samples spinning at the magic angle

Abstract: General integral and series expressions are derived for the intensities of sidebands observed in the magic angle spectra of inhomogeneously broadened I=1/2 systems. The expressions are evaluated for a wide range of shift parameters and the results used to construct graphical and numerical methods for extracting the principal values of chemical shift tensors from the intensities of just a few sidebands. The methods are illustrated by application to 31P spectra of barium diethyl phosphate. The results agree well… Show more

“…Second dimension (from top to bottom) was a nondenaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (NDGGE; 3-30% polyacrylamide gel). After transfer to polyvinylidene difluoride membrane, it was subjected to Western blot with biotinylated mouse apoA-I antibody and developed with Streptavidin AP as described previously (24). Right, 3F-2-administered mouse plasma; left, 3F 14 -administered mouse plasma.…”

“…The chemical shift anisotropies (CSAs) of the 31 P NMR from the phospholipid samples were determined using the solid line shape analysis routine from version 1.3 of Bruker's Topspin program. This program calculates the CSA following the Herzfeld-Berger method (24). The CSAs were determined from the 31 P NMR spectra recorded at at least three different spinning speeds, and the average result is reported.…”

“…(4.6). According to the result given by Herzfeld and Berger [96], the intensity o(the Nth sideband is of different order. We see that the sideband intensities converge at higher orders, and that the rate of convergence is much the same as for the sinusoidal functions.…”
