Side lobe level reduction of thinned concentric elliptical array antenna in vertical and horizontal plane for a desired peak directivity

Abstract: This study, describes the design problem of a thinned multiple concentric elliptical arrays of uniformly excited isotropic antennas using meta-heuristic optimization algorithms; Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO), Crow Search Algorithm (CSA) and Moth Flame Optimization (MFO) algorithm. Two simulations are performed here. In simulation 1, the synthesis of the thinned array structure is presented in the vertical plane at a scanning angle 30 and in simulation 2, the synthesis is performed in the horizont… Show more

“…In other words, the DOA modeling for array antennas is often determined by this substantial assumption that the array elements contain multi directional and symmetric radiation pattern. In most studies of DOA modeling, the signal source is assumed in the antenna far‐field which of course an improved far‐field radiation characteristic mainly depends on the synthesis of low side lobe level and narrow first null beam width 8–13 . The use of the isotropic and directional array radiation pattern will have different impact on the DOAE accuracy.…”

“…Moreover, this approach can deal with the constraint of the mutual coupling effect. Teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO), symbiotic organism search (SOS), and multi verse optimization (MVO) methods are chosen because of their proven effectiveness reported in various kinds of literature [10][11][12][13]. The proposed design approach is suitable for effective application in optimal wireless monitoring technologies, biomedical, and health monitoring systems [14].…”

“…TLBO is a nature‐inspired optimization technique proposed in 2011, 25 which is based on the teaching‐learning phenomenon of a traditional classroom. The literature survey reveals the potentiality of TLBO to find the solution for different types of constrained and unconstrained design problems 26–28 . Another robust algorithm is symbiotic organism search (SOS), which shows improved performance to solve various design problems 29–32 .…”
