Sickness absence as a risk factor for job termination, unemployment, and disability pension among temporary and permanent employees

“…The association between permanent employment and LTSA for women can be interpreted in several ways. Since temporary employees have lower job security, they may be reluctant to hamper future job prospects by making extensive use of sick leave compared to permanent employees [30,31]. “…Tras varias simulaciones se establecieron diferentes puntos de corte. En relación a la duración de la IT, varios estudios observan un aumento en la probabilidad de desarrollar una IP al incrementar la duración de la IT [13][14][15][16][17][18] . Este tiempo de duración de la IT se agrupó en tres categorías con su respectiva puntuación: menos de 4 meses (0 puntos), entre 4 y 6 meses (1 punto) y más de 6 meses (2 puntos).…”

“…6 7 Although the levels of ozone in outdoor air also have been associated with an increased risk in lung cancer and DNA damage, the causal nature of this relationship is unclear. [8][9][10] Tovalin and colleagues provide mechanistic support for these epidemiological observations by showing that the DNA damage in outdoor workers was associated with PM 2.5 . This is the first clear demonstration that particles of this size in outdoor air are associated with DNA damage in humans as measured by the comet assay.…”

“…This situation, which has been called ''presenteeism'', 7 could increase the risk of more severe diseases. 8 In the March issue of this journal, Virtanen and colleagues, 9 from the ''Finnish Public Sector Cohort Study'', provide valuable evidence about the complex association between health and work, specifically the role of the labour relations. Among public sector workers, a high rate of sickness absenteeism significantly increases the risk of job termination and unemployment in temporary employment.…”
