SHS and RHS Stainless Steel Beam-Columns Behaviour

Abstract: Behaviour of stainless steel square hollow section and rectangular hollow section (SHS and RHS) members loaded by compression and major axis bending is investigated in this research. All of the three main stainless steel groups are considered, namely austenitic, ferritic and duplex. Comprehensive numerical parametric study was conducted by using finite element software Abaqus. Numerical model was validated based on the experimental data. Together 20 experiments were conducted consists of both SHS and RHS spe… Show more

“…For stainless steel I-section resistance under combined loading, an extensive experimental and numerical research was published in 2019 by Yuan et al [21]. Twenty test specimens were fabricated from grade 304 (EN 1.4301) austenitic and grade 2205 (EN 1.4406) duplex stainless steel plates -ten were tested under major axis bending plus compression and ten under minor axis bending plus compression.…”

“…The design procedure for beam-columns' load-bearing capacity includes the compressive load-bearing capacity with the influence of buckling and at the same time the bending load-bearing capacity, where interaction factors play an important role. The stainless steel beam-columns have been examined for various cross-section shapes, for instance, laser welded I-profiles [12], circular hollow sections [13] and square and rectangular hollow sections [14]. Nevertheless, performed experimental and numerical research remain insufficient.…”
