Short-Time/-Angle Spectral Analysis for Vibration Monitoring of Bearing Failures under Variable Speed

Abstract: Vibration-condition monitoring aims to detect bearing damages of rotating machinery’s incipient failures mainly through time–frequency methods because of their efficient analysis of nonstationary signals. However, by having failures with impulse behavior, short-term events have a tendency to be diluted under variable-speed conditions, while information on frequency changes tends to be lost. Here, we introduce an approach to highlighting bearing impulsive failures by measuring short-term spectral components to … Show more

“…Moreover, Feng et al [29] and Brusa et al [30] used signal demodulation by envelope analysis to extract characteristic fault frequencies. On the other hand, some authors have used tools such as spectrograms [31,32], kurtograms [33] or bispectra [33,34] to detect the presence of transient events in a signal.…”

“…Techniques exploiting classical envelope analysis for detecting bearing faults by utilizing transient signals are present in the literature. In [29], an enhanced envelope analysis is suggested by utilizing spectral kurtosis emphasizing impulsive components. In [30], a general demodulation based on fault instantaneous frequencies acquisition is utilized.…”
