“…A study by Wang and Zhang examined the short‐term results of inguinal hernia repairs with a “self‐gripping” mesh (Parietex ProGrip—a monofilament polyester textile on one side and a hydrophilic absorbable collagen film on the other side) in a sample of 90 patients (66 males and 24 females). The mesh implantation took place in a single hospital in China between July 2012 and June 2013.…”

“…All 90 patients were followed up at baseline and at 6 months, where the SF‐36 (36‐item short form survey) was used to determine the patient‐reported outcomes. The advantages of this technique are that it is simple to administer, and forms can be mailed to patients, increasing the response rate; however, it is common for a patient to miss items from the questionnaire and thus have incomplete results, and some items have been questioned for their relevance to elderly populations …”

“…The self-fixating mesh is a low molecular weight mesh, having a number of small, absorbable hooks on one of its faces, therefore dispensing with any additional attachment. These are made of polylactic acids that degrade as soon as their integration with the underlying connective tissue occurs [14][15][16][17][18] . In this study, this we placed mesh on the posterior wall of the inguinal canal, passing the pubis, the ileopubic tract and the joint tendon.…”

“…Progrip or prolene repair was applied to 90 cases included in a prospective study conducted by Wang et al between 2012 and 2013. It was determined that progrip graft was significantly superior in terms of post-operative pain and returning to work as a result of 6-month follow-up (8).…”
