Short Communication: Characterization of Rhizoctonia-like mycorrhizae associated with five Dendrobium species in Java, Indonesia

Abstract: Abstract. Soelistijono R, Utami DS, Daryanti, Faizin M, Dian R. 2020. Plankton biodiversity in various typologies of inundation in Paminggir swamp, South Kalimantan, Indonesia on dry season. Biodiversitas 21: 1007-1011. This study aims to determine the morphological and anatomical characteristics of Rhizoctonia-like mycorrhizae associated with the roots of five Dendrobium species; to determine the association between Rhizoctonia-like mycorrhizae with the root of five Dendrobium sp.; to obtain difference betwee… Show more

“…It is suspected that this is related to the morphological characters of the orchid in which the form of association shows a difference in mycorrhiza that is similar to Rhizoctonia and others in adjacent locations. Observations of mycorrhizae are similar to Rhizoctonia, especially the rough texture of the skin so that epiphytic orchids can easily attach their roots (Soelistijono et al 2020). In addition, the shape of the branches, the shape of the leaves that are wide enough and the crowns that are dense enough make this species able to create a microclimate that suits the needs of epiphytic orchids.…”

“…The research was carried out from July 2021 to May 2022. Rhizoctonia mychorrizae taken from the Larat orchid (Dendrobium phaleonopsis) collection of Soelistijono et al, (2020) in the tissue culture laboratory of Agriculture Faculty Universitas Tunas Pembangunan (UTP) Surakarta. The seedling D. violaceoflavens to be inoculated was obtained from tissue culture laboratory and inoculation was carried out in the experimental garden of UTP.…”

“…Rhizoctonia produced niacin that increased germination and growth (Soelistijono et al 2020). Rhizoctonia also increased seed germination up to 44-91% and advanced protocorm growth (Jiang et al 2015).…”
