Ship Target Automatic Detection Based on Hypercomplex Flourier Transform Saliency Model in High Spatial Resolution Remote-Sensing Images

Abstract: Efficient ship detection is essential to the strategies of commerce and military. However, traditional ship detection methods have low detection efficiency and poor reliability due to uncertain conditions of the sea surface, such as the atmosphere, illumination, clouds and islands. Hence, in this study, a novel ship target automatic detection system based on a modified hypercomplex Flourier transform (MHFT) saliency model is proposed for spatial resolution of remote-sensing images. The method first utilizes vi… Show more

“…The PFN module and feature fusion strategy are often used to improve the detection accuracy and reduce the false alarms of the small target [26,42,52]. Furthermore, those modules always integrate into the VGG16 and ResNet-50 networks [42,53]; the CNN models are complex and have many parameters to train. The PFN module and feature fusion strategy show effectiveness for small goals in object detectors, but may show poor effectiveness for much less than 32 × 32.…”

“…Humans can quickly focus on the interest target in the visual scene and selectively ignore the regions that are not of interest [51]. Inspired by human visual mechanisms and multi-level perception capabilities, saliency detection is utilized to extract the interesting areas, namely the saliency regions [52]- [54]. Context-based saliency detection [55] has proven to be a useful method for automating the diminution of the detection range.…”

“…For example, Li et al [ 7 ] proposed a candidate region method by combining a visual saliency algorithm and a spatial competition algorithm and used the directional chamfer matching method to make symmetry detection of potential targets. Similarly, He et al [ 8 ] extracted ship candidate regions in RSIs by segmenting RSIs using visual saliency analysis. While the background of the land is more complex than the sea.…”
