Approaches to modeling population dynamics using discrete-time models are described in this two-part review. The development of the scientific ideas of discrete time models, from the Malthus model to modern population models that take into account many factors affecting the structure and dynamics, is presented. The most important and interesting results of recurrent equation application to biological system analysis obtained by the authors are given. In the first part of this review, the population dynamic effects that result from density-dependent regulation of population, the age and sex structures, and the influence of external factors are considered.

In systems that exhibit multistability, namely those that have more than one coexisting attractor, the basins of attraction evolve in specific ways with the creation of each new attractor. These multiple attractors can be created via different mechanisms. When an attractor is formed via a saddle-node bifurcation, the size of its basin increases as a power-law in the bifurcation parameter. In systems with weak dissipation, the basins of low-order periodic attractors increase linearly, while those of high-order periodic attractors decay exponentially as the dissipation is increased. These general features are illustrated for autonomous as well as driven mappings. In addition, the boundaries of the basins can also change from being smooth to fractal when a new attractor appears. Transitions in the basin boundary morphology are reflected in abrupt changes in the dependence of the uncertainty exponent on the bifurcation parameter.

Аннотация. В простой математической модели динамики популяции обнаружено явление мультирежимности, заключающееся в возможности существования при одних и тех же значениях параметров различных динамических режимов, переход к которым определяется начальными значениями численностей. Данный эффект возникает в модели, имеющей одновременно несколько различных предельных режимов (аттракторов): положение равновесия, регулярные колебания, хаотический аттрактор. Обнаруженное явление мультирежимности позволяет объяснить как возникновение колебаний, так и исчезновение флуктуаций. Адекватность модельных динамических режимов иллюстрируется путем сопоставления их с реальной динамикой численности популяции рыжей полевки (Myodes glareolus). Показано, что влияние внешних климатических факторов на процессы воспроизводства популяции заметно расширяет диапазон возможных динамических режимов и приводит, фактически, к случайному блужданию по бассейнам притяжения этих режимов. Ключевые слова: популяционная динамики, плотностно-зависимая регуляция, математическое моделирование, мультистабильность, мультирежимность, бифуркации, аттрактор, бассейны притяжения. ВВЕДЕНИЕФлуктуации численности популяций у видов с коротким жизненным циклом, особенно мелких млекопитающих (мышевидные грызуны), продолжают оставаться одним из наиболее интересных и загадочных экологических феноменов. Исследования, посвященные изучению механизмов, ведущих к колебательным режимам динамики численности популяций, имеют достаточно долгую историю. Одна из первых работ, в которой был проведен анализ натурных данных численности популяций и выявлено наличие циклических изменений, принадлежит Чарльзу Элтону [1].
