Shelf life and storage stability of spray-dried bovine colostrum powders under different storage conditions

Abstract: Spray dried bovine colostrum (SDBC) powders were packaged in aluminium-laminated polyethylene (ALPE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) pouches and then stored under different conditions (25°C and 50 % relative humidity (RH), 4°C and 40-70 % RH, 50°C and 20-50 % RH). The shelf life of SDBC powder was evaluated as 425.5 and 86.5-days in ALPE and PET pouches under 25°C and 50 % RH, respectively. The storage stability of SDBC powder in terms of quality parameters including thiobarbituric acid (TBA), hydroxymeth… Show more

“…At present, there have been a large number of studies on humidity control materials, most of which are focused on inorganic materials such as charcoal, diatomite, and zeolite, which have serious limitations in terms of chemical modification and reaction diversity. As the principle of humidity control of these materials is to adsorb water, most application scenarios require high relative humidity (≥80% RH), which limits the material that can be used in the preservation of cultural relics and foodstuffs (40−70% RH) 3 as well as some other applications. More importantly, the current humidity control materials can only absorb moisture unidirectionally and cannot adapt to complex or diverse environmental conditions, making it difficult to achieve intelligent bidirec-tional humidity regulation through external stimulation.…”

“…17−19 The spiropyran molecule is formed by orthogonalizing the indoles and benzopyran through the spirocarbon atom. Under UV light irradiation, the C SP 3 -pyran-O bond of spiropyran compounds is broken, and the colorless spiropyran (SP) is converted into a colored ring-opened merocyanine (MC) structure. 20−22 After being exposed to visible light, the C SP 3 -pyran-O bond rebinds that converts the colored merocyanine into a colorless spiropyran.…”

“…Antioxidants may positively affect human health by protecting the body against oxidative stress which is involved in many diseases like cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer (Zuo et al, 2015). Consumers are becoming more and more aware of the relation between diet and disease and greatly concerned about functional foods and dietary supplements as an alternative to medication therapy (Yu et al, 2015). Colostrum and milk-based products have received much attention.…”
