Eight partially grouted (PG-RM) concrete masonry walls were tested to study the influence of the strength and width of blocks, the wall aspect ratio, the horizontal and vertical reinforcement ratio, and the presence of edge elements (flanges). The results were analyzed in terms of the failure mode, damage progression, shear strength, lateral stiffness degradation, equivalent viscous damping ratio, and displacement ductility. Additionally, the performances of some existing shear expressions were analyzed by comparing the measured and predicted lateral load capacity of the tested walls. Based on the results, a slight increment in the lateral stiffness was achieved when employing stronger blocks, while the shear strength remained constant. Besides, increasing the width of concrete blocks did not have a significant effect on the shear strength nor in the initial tangential stiffness, but it generated a softer post-peak strength degradation. Increasing the wall aspect ratio reduced the brittleness of the response and the shear strength. Reducing the amount of vertical reinforcement lowered the resulting shear strength, although it also slowed down the post-peak resistance degradation. Transversal edge elements provided integrity to the wall response, generated softer resistance degradation, and improved the symmetry of the response, but they did not raise the lateral resistance.

Reinforced Concrete buildings with masonry infills are among the most common structural systems in many countries with regions of high seismicity. Masonry infill walls increase robustness of damaged RC structures. Although their mechanical contribution is usually neglected in structural analysis and design, they significantly affect the seismic response of RC frames. In this paper, we concentrate on the development of infill walls by using various structure design and brick types. An experimental investigation is carried out on two types of mortar mixes like conventional mortar and mortar used with hybrid fibers (polypropylene, sisal, kenaf, and aramid). Here, two types of masonry brick infills such as clay bricks and fly ash bricks are used. After construction of the specimens, each was marked properly according to their respective test of total 60 specimens, which have conventional and fiber‐mixed mortars. After 28 days curing, the masonry specimens attain their full strength and they became ready for the test. The material ratio followed to construct test specimens was according to the Indian standard. The shear test is conducted for masonry triplets and the flexural test is conducted for masonry wall panel structures. After that, the mechanical properties of this structure are validated with the help of the Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM)‐based Deep Neural Network (DNN). The performance of the proposed modeling is evaluated by comparing with those of the existing techniques.

This study focuses on the deformability and damaging of ungrouted and fully grouted masonry assemblages and a full-scale partially grouted (PG) reinforced masonry wall made of concrete masonry units (CMU). Traditional point-to-point method using strain gages and fullfield measurement technique using digital image correlation (DIC) were implemented to investigate the damage and deformability of specimens. All the specimens were constructed in compliance with the provisions of the Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC 2013) and tested under displacement controlled loading. The DIC method was used to determine nonuniform strain contours on the masonry assemblages. The method was verified by comparing the strains along the selected directions with traditional strain-gage based displacement transducer (TML model) measurements. After verifying the method, it was used to investigate the state of damage and deformability of the wall. It was concluded that full-field measurements using DIC is promising especially when the test specimens experience inelastic deformation and extensive damage. Quantitative mapping of deformation field until the wall capacity is reached was only possible by using DIC. In addition to monitoring the strains across the gage length, the DIC method provided a full-field quantitative strain map of the test specimens to wall capacity and revealed strain hot-spots associated with the maximum strain at crack locations. Characterizing the deformation mechanism and cracking of the PG reinforced masonry wall was performed by determining strain distribution and recognition of cracks corresponding to the wall capacity and strains in higher than 0.3%.
