Shear Capacity of C-Shaped and L-Shaped Angle Shear Connectors

Abstract: This paper investigates the behaviour of C-shaped and L-shaped angle shear connectors embedded in solid concrete slabs. An effective finite element model is proposed to simulate the push out tests of these shear connectors that encompass nonlinear material behaviour, large displacement and damage plasticity. The finite element models are validated against test results. Parametric studies using this nonlinear model are performed to investigate the variations in concrete strength and connector dimensions. The fi… Show more

“…Previously, Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference was used to classify the prevailing parameters affecting the shear strength forecast for angle shear connectors developed in C and L [17]. The use of channel shear connectors embedded in lightweight concrete in composite structures and shows that lightweight concrete has a minor effect on the specimens' ductility and load displacement performance [2,18]. The shear transfer capacity of a precast concrete sandwich panel system consists of two prefabricated reinforced concrete wythes separated by a layer of wythe is influenced by the composite behavior/ action degree [19].…”

“…Basalt fiber reinforced polymers effectively served as a shear connector and longitudinal reinforcement. The panels reinforced with Basalt fiber polymers showed a distinct load Plateau after connector failure occurred, which gave warnings of failure over excessive deflections usually used to warn of failure in parts strengthened with FRP [18,21]. An appropriate estimation of channel shear connectors shear capacity at varying slip, web and thickness flanges, weight, and concrete compression strength [20].…”

“…The shear resistance and ductility of the two types of connectors were primarily investigated using static and cyclic loadings. Tahmasbi et al (2016) [9] investigated the behavior of two shapes of angle shear connectors (C and L-shaped) embedded in solid concrete slabs experimentally and numerically. Finite element model (FEM) was built to simulate the behavior of these connectors by employing nonlinear behaviour using large displacement and damage plasticity.…”
