Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have been widely used to strengthen the deteriorated reinforced concrete structures due to their outstanding characteristics of light weight, high strength, as well as noncorrosion. A successful strengthening with the FRP composites would equip the existing structures with the prominent improvement in terms of the durability, ductility, and bearing capacity. Current studies indicate that a simple and reliable anchorage system for the FRP composites will help improve the performance of the strengthened structures both efficiently and economically. Up till now, various anchorage systems have been developed for the FRP composites. Therefore, it is necessary to select appropriate anchorage systems according to different needs and establish relevant design specifications. In view of the aforementioned objectives, this paper systematically summarizes the anchoring mechanism of anchorage systems for two commonly used FRP products (FRP laminates and FRP bars) in different strengthened systems. Additionally, a state-of-the-art review as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each anchorage system are presented. Finally, shortcomings in the current state of knowledge and recommendations beneficial to further study are put forward.

Beams strengthened in shear with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) which had different transverse reinforcement ratio were tested to evaluate shear contribution in the CFRP and to analyze shear behavior of each test with Mohr's circle. Strain in the CFRP should be evaluated to estimate the shear contribution in the CFRP which is brittle material. Test results were compared each other based on the Mohr's circle which can correlate shear strain with both principal tensile strain and crack angle. With low transverse steel ratio, shear strengthening with CFRP not only increases the shear strength effectively but also minimizes the loss in shear contribution of concrete by limiting the development of crack. With high transverse steel ratio, the effect on shear strengthening with CFRP is not as much as the beam with low ratio. Therefore, the shear contribution in the CFRP should be evaluated based on the strain compatibility which can consider the interaction between steel and CFRP when determining the shear capacity of a strengthened member.

Retofitting of Reinforced Concret Bwams Using CFRP Flexural and Shear

In this paper, thirty three tests were conducted on 200x400x3250 mm full-scale reinforced concrete beams retrofitted in flexural and shear using Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) laminates. All beams were tested under four-point bending. The main variables considered were the position and the length of retrofitting of CFRP laminates, six different lengths 500,1000,1500,2000, 2500, and 3000mm were used to retrofit the beams in flexural, while three different position of CFRP, diagonal, vertical and full CFRP strips were applied on the lateral faces of the beams to retrofit the beams in shear. The experimental results, indicated that generally, CFRP laminates help in improving the structure performance by reducing deflections and/or cracking and increasing ultimate strength. The beams retrofitted in shear and flexure by using CFRP laminates are restored to stiffness and strength values nearly equal to or greater than those of the control beams. It was found that the efficiency of the strengthening technique by CFRP in flexure varied depending on the length of CFRP laminates. Also the experimental outcomes prove that CFRP strips distribution can improve the load carrying capacity of the beams retrofitted in shear. The failure modes are controlled by the pre-repair damage flexural crack wherein it causes the CFRP deboning.
