Shear and bulk viscosities of the gluon plasma in a quasiparticle description

Abstract: Shear and bulk viscosities of deconfined gluonic matter are investigated within an effective kinetic theory by describing the strongly interacting medium phenomenologically in terms of quasiparticle excitations with medium-dependent self-energies. We show that the resulting transport coefficients reproduce the parametric dependencies on temperature and coupling obtained in perturbative QCD at large temperatures and small running coupling. The extrapolation into the nonperturbative regime results in a decreasin… Show more

“…Therefore, jet quenching can tell us the properties of the created hot dense matter by the energetic partons passing through the medium and is defined by the jet quenching parameterq, which is related to another transport coefficient, the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio η/s [7,8]. Both η/s and ∆ have been obtained in quasiparticle models [9][10][11][12] and the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model(NJL) as well.…”

“…Furtheremore, in order to take into account the thermodynamics from lQCD calculation, we employ the quasi-particle (QP) model [42] similarly to [53][54][55][56]. We recall that the aim of a quasi-particle model is to describe a strongly interacting systems in terms of quasiparticles weakly interacting whose masses are generated by the non-perturbative effects.…”

“…Within a quasiparticle approximation, a kinetic theory treatment for the calculation of transport coefficient can be a reasonable approximation that we shall be following similar to that in Refs. [22,25,29,30,52]. The plasma can be described by a phase space density for for each species of particle.…”
