Shaping ability of ProTaper NEXT and BTRaCe nickel–titanium instruments in severely curved root canals

Abstract: Within the parameters of this study, all instruments maintained root canal curvature well and were safe. However, care should be taken when using the BT2 instrument due to its unique cylindrical design.

“…In the present investigation, measurements were done at 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm from the foramen, revealing a statistically insignificant difference in transportation between the CV and PV groups. Apical transportation values recorded in our study were slightly higher than those obtained in others under similar experimental conditions, but those investigations only considered the CV in the evaluated apical transportation . In the present study, the apical transportation was more relevant in the PV than in the CV, probably because of a greater curvature degree in the PV, which led to major difficulty in maintaining original apical curvature.…”

“…The aim of the present investigation was to compare the shaping ability of two rotary NiTi instruments in curved root canals of extracted human molar teeth. Previous investigations, which focused on the shaping ability of NiTi instruments, were performed using either simulated root canals or extracted human teeth . Extracted human teeth reflect the clinical situation more adequately, although root canal morphology and dentine hardness cannot be standardized, and could differ significantly from one tooth to another …”

“…Bürklein et al . () evaluated the transportation produced by PTN, PTU, BTRace and Mtwo rotary instruments using conventional radiographic films in curved canals prepared to a final apical size of 40. There were no significant differences between the file systems in terms of canal transportation.…”

“…ProTaper Next instruments are an improved version of the ProTaper Universal files (both Dentsply Sirona) manufactured from a NiTi alloy using special heat treatment, which increases their shaping ability in curved root canals with minimal apical transportation (Bürklein et al . , Brasil et al . ).…”
