Shape memory actuator with slider and slot layout and single fan cooling

Abstract: This work proposes a new shape memory actuator based on a slider and slot mechanism. The particular layout can be associated to a simplified air cooling with a single fan and results in a solid and reliable structure. Dimensioning of parts is described and preliminary experimental results are presented. © 2014 IEEE

“…Two list of CPM devices are shown (Table 1-2), respectively, for the wrist and for the hand rehabilitation. [24][25][26] and are classified with different criteria; one of the most common classifications is based on the used technology: piezoelectric devices [27,28], electric motors [29,30], shape memory actuators [31][32][33][34][35][36][37], etc. The most commonly used devices are electric ones that represent also the most common choice in rehabilitation devices.…”

“…1 and Fig. 2, the heartbeat is reproduced using a linear motor [23][24][25][26][27][28] connected to a hydraulic cylinder with double effect: in this way, with a suitable law of motion is possible to flow the fluid within the circuit, and to adjust the heart's frequency. The parameters considered for linear motor choice are: -the force required to move the blood's mass; -the speed of fluid; -the necessary acceleration for movement.…”
