Shape and texture based classification of citrus using principal component analysis

Abstract: Citrus family consists of a variety of eatable, consumable and usable items with varying nutritional contents. Naked eye citrus classification needs expert human effort, which provides poor decision reliability. The unreliable classification decision may be extremely hazardous when the citrus is being classified for exports or usage in pharmacy products and various food items. In this paper, citrus fruit has been classified on shape and texture features. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used as a methodo… Show more

“…First, the data will be mean-centered and Pareto-scaled by dividing each variable by its standard deviation’s square root. The spectral data will be analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]. To determine the validity of the PLS-DA model, a permutation test (100 cycles) and an ANOVA of cross-validated residuals (CVANOVA) will be performed.…”

“…Furthermore, Hadimani and Garg introduced a method for categorizing various flaws in Kinnow fruits, employing multiple criteria for classification [6]. Akhter et al proposed a classification methodology for categorizing citrus fruits, including Kinnow, by utilizing color and shape data, and incorporating principal component analysis for feature extraction [7]. Additionally, Singh and Malik contributed to the field by suggesting an approach using feature selection for enhancing the classification of Kinnow fruits, employing the hybrid filter method [8].…”

“…The genera Citrus are trees that bear flowers and belong to the Rutaceae family (Favela-Hernández et al, 2016). Other approaches to its classification are provided by Akhtar et al (2021) and Singh et al (2021). Citrus is a native of South East Asia (Wu et al, 2018) and now grown globally in the tropics and sub-tropics because of its immense economic, nutritional, phytochemical, pharmacological, antimicrobial, antiparasitic significance (Othman and Fadzil, 2021;Akarca et al, 2021).…”
