Shape- and Size-Controlled Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Aloe vera Plant Extract and Their Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: Biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) was performed at room temperature using Aloe vera plant extract in the presence of ammoniacal silver nitrate as a metal salt precursor. The formation of AgNP was monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy at different time intervals. The shape and size of the synthesized particle were visualized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations. These results were confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Fourier tran… Show more

“…This confirms the absence of bulky aggregates and a broad size distribution as reported in previous papers [74,75]. The reducing agents TCA and Cinn controlled the size distribution and size-directing properties of the Cinn bark extract is confirmed [75]. TCA and Cinn controlled the size distribution and size-directing properties of the Cinn bark extract is confirmed [75].…”

“…In Table 1, appear the presumptive identi cation and relative quantity (%) of the components present in lemongrass solid sample analyzed by GC-MS operated in the full-scan mode of radio frequency. In order to guarantee the formation of TiO 2 nanoparticles with sizes of less than 20 nm, it is necessary that the extract of the lemongrass leaves has phytochemical components that act as surfactants and stabilizers that prevent excessive agglomeration of the nanoparticulate material formed during the synthesis [33,35,[41][42][43][44][45][46][47], as proposed in the mechanism shown in Figure 2. However, it is possible to synthesize TiO 2 powders through the complete hydrolysis of the used precursor (titanium isopropoxide) through the direct contact of the titanium source with water [45,48], with the disadvantage that it does not present alternatives to control the stages of nucleation and growth that are carried out in the process of production of nanoparticles in solution [49].…”
