“…The work by Ferry et al [2022] contributes to demonstrate the tectonic control of the forced regression around the Aptian-Albian boundary recorded in the SE France basins, associated to the "Austrian" tectonic pulse. Duarte et al [2022] present a sedimentological, organic, and isotopic study of the Upper Sinemurian of the S. Pedro de Moel section (Lusitanian Basin) that reveal the transgressive context of sedimentation and the impact of diagenetic transformations on δ 13 C variations.…”

“…2). These were followed during the late Sinemurian -Aalenian by mid-to outer-ramp marls and marly limestones (middle and upper parts of the Coimbra Formation in the northwest of the basin; and the Água de Madeiros, Vale das Fontes, Lemede, Fórnea, São Gião, Cabo Carvoeiro, Cabo Mondego, Póvoa da Lomba and Barranco do Zambujal Formations elsewhere) (Duarte and Soares, 2002;Azerêdo et al, 2003Azerêdo et al, , 2010Azerêdo et al, , 2014Azerêdo, 2007;Duarte, 2007;Duarte et al, 2010Duarte et al, , 2022Silva et al, 2021) (Fig. 2).…”

“…In addition to the Polvoeira and MLOF Members, organic-rich rocks in the northern part of the basin are present in the Coimbra Formation (Poças Ribeiro et al, 2013;Duarte et al, 2013Duarte et al, , 2022Brito et al, 2017;Sêco et al, 2018) which according to Brito et al (2017) generated the oils in this area. The stable carbon isotope and biomarker characteristics of the oils and oil shows from this area are similar to those of Coimbra Formation extracts.…”

“…This scheme has been superseded by much more detailed lithostratigraphy. In its revised, restricted sense, the Coimbra Formation of Moitinho de Almeida et al (1958) varies greatly in thickness and stratigraphic extent (Azerêdo et al, 2003; Duarte et al, 2022; Soares et al, 1985, 1993). The informal Sinemurian to Callovian Brenha Formation of De Meijer and Witt (in Witt, 1977) is replaced by more than a dozen formations today, documenting the lateral and stratigraphic lithological variability of the succession, as well as the progress in dating these sediments (Duarte, 2007; Duarte et al, 2009; Duarte & Soares, 2002; Kullberg et al, 2013).…”
