Shaking table tests on China Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai China

Abstract: Modern structural engineering tends to progress towards more novel high‐rise structures through gradually improved methods of design and wide use of new materials. The National Hall of China Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai is such a building specially designed with a shape of an inverted trapezoid in elevation and local discontinuity of floor slabs in plan for aesthetic and functional considerations. The preliminary analysis shows that the fundamental vibration mode of this structure is a torsional mode due to… Show more

“…Studies focused on how the organisation of Expos stimulated the tourist industry (Jauncey, Nadkarni, 2014) and demonstrated their impact on citizens living in host cities (Lamberti, Noci, Guo, Zhu, 2011;Wang, 2014;Vij, Upadhya, Vij, Kumar, 2019]. The analysis also covered the architecture of individual national pavilions (Martínez Calzón, Castañón Jiménez, 2010;Yang, Chen, Jiang, Lu, 2012;Seo, 2017, to name but a few) and of other facilities which have become the symbols of host cities over time (Yang, Chen, Jiang, Lu, 2012). Furthermore, Expo's impact on the growth of such cities was examined (Meyer-Künzel, 2007;Vita, 2022), as well as their revitalisation was discussed (Deng, Poon, 2012;Deng, Poon, Chan, 2016).…”

“…Xu et al carried out a shaking table test on a 1/15 scale model to evaluate the seismic performance of a high‐rise building that possessed a steel‐reinforced concrete framed core wall. Yang et al conducted a shaking table test on a 1/27 scale model to investigate the seismic performance of the China Pavilion for the Expo 2010 Shanghai that was characterized by an extremely irregular shape in the elevation. Lu et al studied a complex, high‐rise building that consists of two towers of different height connected by trusses, and a shaking table test of 1/15 scale model was conducted.…”

“…Many researchers (e.g. Rodríguez et al, 2006;Lu et al, 2008;Ziemian et al, 2010;Cheng and Lu, 2010;Yang et al, 2012;Zhou et al, 2012) have performed shaking table tests to determine linear and nonlinear dynamic responses of scale structural models subjected to various earthquake records. In addition, several experimental shaking table studies have been carried out on tall building models (e.g.…”
