“…Although the structural forms and joint design systems of Japanese and Chinese traditional timber structures are generally different from Taiwanese traditional timber structures, some similarities, such as heavy roof loads, the ‘Dou-stacking’ property of complex brackets and the ‘Penetrating-joint’ ( Nuki ) concept, are commonly observed. In addition, both Taiwan and Japan experience similar natural disaster calamities such as earthquakes and typhoons on a yearly basis; hence, in this study, the authors decided to apply the structural analysis knowledge gathered from Japanese research (Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ), 2006; Fujita et al, 1999, 2000, 2001; Inayama, 1991, 1993; Kitamori, 2010; Kitamori et al, 2010; Kyuke et al, 2008; Madsen et al, 1982), as these findings might be relevant to the Taiwanese context.…”
