Background: Marital and sexual satisfaction are essential for conjugal bliss and harmony. However, stress in the workplace can influence sexual and marital satisfaction of couples. There is dearth of information about level of sexual and marital satisfaction among healthcare workers in Nigeria, as well as the connections between stress, sexual and marital satisfaction among healthcare workers. Purpose: This study assessed inter-relationship between perceived stress, sexual and marital satisfaction among married healthcare workers.Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study adopted a quantitative approach among 150 consented healthcare workers recruited using a simple random sampling technique. Instruments for data collection included the Perceived Stress Scale, Enrich Marital Satisfaction questionnaire and Pinney Sexual Satisfaction Inventory. The Pearson correlation was used to ascertain relationships and linear regression was done to predict influence of one variable on the other.Results: Perceived level of stress of the healthcare workers was low [16.9(0.001)] and mean sexual satisfaction (SS) was poor [78.93(23.68)]. Also, 49.3% were found to be the dissatisfied maritally. Perceived stress showed a positive correlation with marital satisfaction (MS) (r=0.48, p<0.01). However, stress negatively correlated with participants’ SS with partners (r=-0.51, p<0.01). Similarly, general SS positively correlated with MS (r=0.32, p<0.01). Predictors of MS included perceived stress (β=0.614, p=0.01), age differences with spouse (β=0.30, p=0.01), number of children (β=-0.24, p=0.01), and family type (β=-0.21, p=0.05).Conclusion: Only half of the participants in this study are maritally satisfied. Marital satisfaction increases with sexual satisfaction. Stress is correlated with reduced sexual satisfaction of the participant, and as number of children increases, marital satisfaction reduces. Couples should be encouraged to give birth to moderate number of children to improve marital satisfaction.

Background: Sexual satisfaction in marriage is paramount and key to marital satisfaction and happiness. Aims: This study is aimed at determining the prevalence and impact of marital sexual relationship-focused premarital counselling on sexual satisfaction among married women. Setting and Design: A total of 473 married women participated in this cross-sectional survey design; data was generated online utilizing Google form. Method and Material: Sexual satisfaction sub scale of Female Sexual Function Index was used in collecting data. Statistical analysis used: Chi-square and Univariate Analysis of Variance were used in testing the hypotheses in this study at 0.05 significance level. Results: Findings revealed high prevalence of marital sexual relationship focused premarital counselling among married women, with 73.6% of the married women in the study counselled on marital sexual relationship prior to their marriage, χ2 = 105.135, p = 0.0001 ( p < 0.05). Similarly, outcome of hypothesis two revealed significant difference in terms of prevalence of people that render marital sexual relationship focused premarital counselling, with 29.6%, 26.6%, 8.0%, 4.9%, 3.0%, 0.6%, 3.0%, 0.4% and 0.4% respectively, that were educated by pastors, mother, female friend, aunt, grandmother, mothers’ friend, step mother and Imam, χ2 = 540.918, p = 0.0001 ( p < 0.05). Finally, result of hypothesis three revealed that marital sexual relationship focused premarital counselling have significant impact on sexual satisfaction, means; 1.57, 1.44, F (1,471) = 5.923, p = 0.015 ( p < 0.05). Participants that were counselled on marital sexual relationship had mean sexual satisfaction score of 1.57, while those that were not counselled had mean sexual satisfaction score of 1.44. Conclusions: Findings of the study is an implication for marriage counsellors and other professionals that handle marriage related issues to be intentional in addressing marital sexual relationship issues during premarital counselling and there is need to develop marital sexual relationship premarital counselling guide which can help in addressing issues concerning marital sexual relationship during premarital counselling.

Background: Sexual function and satisfaction are 2 important components of sexual health. Both sexual function and satisfaction of women are influenced by various internal and external factors over their life cycle. This study aims to explore the factors of sexual function and satisfaction among nonworking married women in Bengaluru using a qualitative exploratory study. Materials and Methods: This is a qualitative exploratory research study that adopted an inductive thematic data analysis. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 11 nonworking working married women of Bengaluru. The interviews were audio recorded, and the transcribed data were analyzed with ATLAS.ti software. The results were presented thematically. Results: It was found that somatic and personal factors such as health and appearance, pregnancy and postpregnancy issues, compatibility between couples, and spousal qualities; psychological factors such as stressors and stabilizers that related to emotional and mental health; and situational and extrinsic factors such as pressure to conceive, child-rearing, types of family, traditional beliefs and practices, societal stigma and taboo, daily schedules of couples, and ambiance and privacy were influencing the sexual function and satisfaction of women. Conclusion: The study could find positive and negative factors of sexual function and satisfaction. These factors need further exploration with larger studies from other cultures and groups.
