Sexual maturation in East German boys*

Abstract: According to the internationally accepted classification, sexual maturation was investigated in 8685 healthy East German boys by means of the status quo method and the probit regression analysis. The 3rd, 50th and 97th centiles were calculated for the development of both the male external genitalia and pubic and axillary hairs. “…There are many studies examining the sexual maturation of girls; however, the data on sexual maturation of boys are considerably less (Marshall and Tanner 1970, Largo and Prader 1983, Roche, Wellens, Attie et al 1995, Wong, Leung, Law et al 1996, Willers, Engelhardt and Pelz 1996, Fredriks, van Buuren, Burgmeijer et al 2000. As far as we know, there is only one study on pubertal maturation of Greek boys (Batrinos 1974), that was performed in Athens in the late 1960s and in which pubertal rating was not according to Tanner's method.…”
