Introduction:The climacteric is a natural transition stage in women, in which hormonal changes occur that affect the physical and psychological well-being. Therefore, the objective was to determine the relationship of the severity of climacteric symptomatology with depression and sexual function in women.Materials and methods: It was a descriptive, cross-sectional study, with a sample of 60 women between 40 and 65 years old. The Female Sexual Function Questionnaire-2, the Menopause Rating Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory were used.Results: The mean age of the women was 49.1 ±5.6 years. 21.7% of the women had severe depression, 28.3% moderate, and 50% mild/minimal. Changes in sleep habits (1.73 ±0.88) and in appetite (1.63 ±0.73) were the most severe manifestations. Difficulty sleeping (1.05 ±0.99), physical and mental fatigue (1.48 ±0.98), and vaginal sequelae (1.45 ±1.26) were the most serious complaints in the somatic, psychological, and urogenital domains, respectively. 60% presented severe sexual dysfunction regarding genital pain and 55% in vaginal penetration. Communicating sexual preferences to the partner was common in 75% of women. 88.3% had frequent sexual activity, but 63.3% had zero or low sexual satisfaction.Conclusions: Climacteric symptomatology is related to depression but not to women's sexual function.

Objective: Palpitations during peri- and post-menopause are common. It is unclear what variables are related to palpitations in peri- and post-menopausal women. The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize potential correlates of palpitations in women transitioning through menopause. Methods: The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Authors included English-language, full-length, peer-reviewed, cross-sectional research articles on palpitations in menopausal women published through December 18, 2021, from PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and PsycINFO searches. Following de-duplication, screening of titles and abstracts, and review of full-texts, independent reviewers extracted data on variables studied in relationship to palpitations from 84 articles and resolved discrepancies. Authors extracted data on (1) demographic, clinical, biomarker, and symptom/quality of life variables and (2) data analysis method (bivariate, multivariate). Authors classified each variable as a likely, unlikely, or unclear correlate of palpitations. Results: Articles were diverse in region of origin, sample sizes, and variables assessed in relationship to palpitations. Evidence for any one variable was sparse. Likely correlates of palpitations included race/ethnicity, lower physical activity, worse vasomotor symptoms (VMSs), worse sleep, and worse quality of life. Unlikely correlates included age, employment, education, marital status, socioeconomic status, comorbidities, body mass index, and sexual difficulties. Unclear correlates due to equivocal evidence were menopausal status, smoking, and depression. Unclear correlates due to insufficient evidence (less than three articles) included all of the assessed biomarkers, anxiety, and stress. Conclusion: Likely correlates were identified including race/ethnicity, physical activity, VMS, sleep, and quality of life. However, additional research is needed to better understand potential correlates of palpitations.

Background Educational interventions for self-care are a necessary solution to help postmenopausal women properly deal with menopausal problems. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of self-care training using an application on the quality of marital relations and the severity of menopausal symptoms in postmenopausal women in Iran. Methods In this study, 60 postmenopausal women selected using the convenience sampling method were divided into two groups, intervention and control, using simple random allocation (lottery). The intervention group used the menopause self-care application for eight weeks in addition to routine care, but the control group only received the routine care. The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and the Perceived Relationship Quality Components (PRQC) questionnaire were completed in two stages, before and immediately after eight weeks, in both groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 16), descriptive (mean and standard deviation), and inferential (ANCOVA and Bonferroni post hoc) statistics. Results The ANCOVA results showed that the use of the menopause self-care application decreased the severity of the participants’ menopause symptoms (P = 0.001) and improved the quality of their marital relations (P = 0.001). Conclusion Implementation of a self-care training program through the application helped improve the quality of marital relations and reduce the severity of postmenopausal women's symptoms, so it can be used as an effective method to prevent the unpleasant consequences of menopause.
