“…Distraction from sexual cues has been shown to have deleterious effects on both genital and subjective arousal in women. 15 Probably the fear of contagion, the stressful situation, and the change in daily life may hurt the sexual activity of the women examined. 16 This study aims to evaluate the modification of sexual function in an Italian reproductive-age women group during COVID-19 pandemic period.…”

“…When PM was tested in combination with ovarian hormones, no effect on basal anxiety was found for sexual history, while an anxiolytic effect was found for progesterone ( Arnold et al, 2019 ). Nevertheless, in the same study it was found that paced mating reduced anxiety after an acute stressor, suggesting that PM provides an increased resilience to stress ( Arnold et al, 2019 ). When females mate in traditional mating chambers, an increase in anxiety-related behaviors is observed, without behavioral changes in the PM group ( Nyuyki et al, 2011 ).…”

“…We also propose some areas of research where findings in nonmammalian species can motivate experiments in mammals. Sexual experience not only affects physiological systems related to social behavior but also responses to stress (Arnold et al, 2019; Morris et al, 2013) and cognitive flexibility (Glasper et al, 2015) in mammals. However, the extent to which mating experiences affect these processes in nonmammalian vertebrates remains unknown.…”

“…Mating experience also affects the timing and performance of sexual behaviors in female mammals (e.g., Meisel & Mullins, 2006). When female rats are allowed to regulate the pace of mating, sexually experienced females return to the male more quickly after intromission, and exhibit shorter intervals between intromissions compared to sexually naïve females (Arnold et al, 2019). Moreover, naive male hamsters allowed to copulate with sexually experienced females are more successful with intromissions than naive males that copulate with naive females, suggesting female regulation of successful copulation (Bradley et al, 2005).…”
