“…In the functionality dimension, we distinguished several domains whose definition comes from studies that point out that stereotypes in gender roles, sexism (learned through gender socialization) and beliefs and myths about romantic love are important risk factors in gender violence (Barnett et al, 1995; Fundación Mujeres, 2004; R. González & Santana, 2001; Luzón et al, 2011). Other studies have related the presence of sexist beliefs with violence in couple relationships in young adults and adolescents (Arenas, 2013; Rodríguez et al, 2006) and pointed out that boys with sexist beliefs are more likely to use violence in the couple, especially physical aggression (Díaz-Aguado et al, 2021; R. González & Santana, 2001; Madrona-Bonastre et al, 2023; Ovejero et al, 2013). We thus identified the domains that are directly related to sexist violence (sexism), those related to inequality (gender stereotypes are present in both of them), myths of romantic love and feminism (ideas about equality), and we included the perspective of sexual and gender diversity due to its theoretical connection with gender socialization.…”
