“…Sex analysis was performed under a Leica MZ6 stereomicroscope (Leica Microsystems, Milan, Italy) by ablating the second pleopod, which was examined on a freshly prepared slide, under a Leica DMLB optical microscope (Leica Microsystems, Milan, Italy). The presence of an appendix masculina [ 31 ] indicates a male animal [ 23 ]. To validate the transcriptomic results, further analyses performed on the PL 5 consisted of monitoring the expression of genes in males, deriving them from negative controls (Diatom −), and in females, deriving them from treatments with feed containing diatoms (Diatom +).…”

“…After mating with normal male or female individuals, the neofemale or neomale could produce all‐male or all‐female progeny (Levy et al . 2019; Guerrero‐Tortolero & Campos‐Ramos 2019). M .…”

“…Since IAG might be the sexual 'IAG-switch' for its key roles in sex differentiation in decapod crustacean, and the decapods have striking sex plasticity (Levy & Sagi 2020), it is possible to produce the individuals which were genetically male but phenotypic female (neofemale) or genetically female but phenotypic male (neomale) by utilizing IAG. After mating with normal male or female individuals, the neofemale or neomale could produce all-male or all-female progeny (Levy et al 2019;Guerrero-Tortolero & Campos-Ramos 2019). M. rosenbergii was such a successful case .…”

“…In shrimp species, polyploidy is efficient technique to produce sterility for genetic protection and skewing sex ratio towards high production of females which female was identified larger than males in all of penaeid shrimp (Sellars et al, 2010). Guerrero‐Tortolero and Campos‐Ramos (2019) identified in most of penaeid shrimp females grow larger than males such as in Pacific white shrimp, L. vannamei , Kuruma prawn, M. japonicus , giant tiger prawn, P. monodon , Chinese shrimp, F. chinensis and also in Indian prawn, P. indicus . The size of the shrimp also determines the price in the market as by culturing monosex species, respectively, will make better profit.…”
