Sex-Related Differences in Short- and Long-Term Outcome among Young and Middle-Aged Patients for ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Underwent Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Abstract: Background:Females with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have higher in-hospital and short-term mortality rates compared with males in China, suggesting that a sex disparity exists. The age of onset of STEMI is ahead of time and tends to be younger. However, there are relatively little data on the significance of sex on prognosis for long-term outcomes for adult patients with STEMI after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in China. This study sought to analyze the sex differences in 30-… Show more

“…A similar trend was found in hospitalization rate of young AMI patients (10). However, very few studies focused on young AMI patients in China (5,11). The study on these patients may have novel implications for understanding the status and quality of AMI management.…”

“…This ratio was almost the same in the all procedures. Contrary to our expectations, no high family history was observed in eligible studies; as 32% of the population had a family history and varied from 10 to 50% in Fu et al and COURAGE, respectively [ 15 , 22 ]. This conveys the importance of environmental factors.…”

“…In other words, the variable under consideration must be a correct confounder or not be in the causal path between the exposure and the outcome (mediating variable) [ 8 ]. Hence, we attempted to identify the most relevant variables by reviewing the literature [ 1 , 14 17 ] and considering the experts’ opinions. In such a way, we finally included 30 variables out of 55 variables in the PSM model (Tables 1 and 2 ) based on outcome adaptive lasso.…”
