Sex-Limited Hereditary Cancer in Lepidopterous Larvae

Abstract: Zusammenfassung. In einer Zucht des Schmetterlings Pygaera pigra wurden lauter ♀‐Puppen, 39 an der Zahl, erhalten, während alle ♂‐Raupen zugrunde gingen. 11 der aus diesen Puppen ausschlüpfenden Weibchen wurden mit Männchen von pigra und solchen der verwandten Art curtula gepaart. Die elf Zuchten ergaben wieder lauter ♀‐Puppen, zusammen 226 Stück, dagegen keine einzige ♂‐Puppe. In sämtlichen Zuchten starben alle ♂‐Raupen, die meisten vermutlich an Tumoren.
