Abstract:Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection damages the heart, increasing the risk of adverse cardiovascular events. Female sex protects against complications of infection: females are less likely to experience severe illness or death, although their risk for Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 ("Long COVID") is higher than males.
