Sex and age distribution of patients with lichen planus

Abstract: 625This case shows that scleroderma may be associated with LVHT and neuromuscular disoerders. The frequent association of neuromuscular disorders with LVHT and the frequent association of cutaneous sclerosis with myopathy suggests a common aetiology of the described abnormalities. Isolated noncompaction of left ventricular myocardium. A study of eight cases. Circulation 1990; 82: 507-513. 5 Ringel R, Brick JE, Brick JF, Gutmann L, Riggs JE. “…In our clinical study, 20 females and 10 males were clinically and histopathologically diagnosed as EOLP. Those finding were in agreement with other reports that have shown a female predilection to this condition (4,27), On the other hand Abdullah et al, (28) stated that both sexes are almost equally affected by lichen planus. The ages of enrolled individuals ranged between 30 and 60years; this range was in accordance with Bilgili et al, (29) and Al Hashimi et al, (30).…”

“…However, contrary to Daramola et al (16) findings, the present study has not confirmed the female predominance of LP, as both sexes were almost equally affected by CLP and HLP. This observation is consistent with the findings of other studies as well (25,26). Studies have described the CLP as a non-gender, non-racial prevalent disease with tendencies to involve the skin, nails, hair, and mucosal sites (5,25).…”

“…Furthermore, the cases of HLP are more likely to originate in the lower limbs, confine to the lower legs and have a significant association with metabolic comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia compared to those with CLP. The mean age of LP patients in the present study was 37.20±13.39 years, that being in accordance with the previously documented adult age range of 30-60 years (24,25). Similarly, the mean age of patients with LP in this study was very close to 37.13±12.8 years as documented by Daramola et al previously in a similar environment (15)(16)(17) and 38.8 years as documented in India by Bhattacharya et al (26).…”

“…While no specific gender predominance has been recognized, LP may affect more adult females than adult males (Kyriakis et al, 2006). Among childhood LP studies, no gender prevalence has been detected (Balasubramaniam et al, 2008, Handa and Sahoo, 2002, Luis-Montoya et al, 2005, Nanda et al, 2001, Pandhi et al, 2014, Walton et al, 2010).…”
