“…Less common complications include arteriovenous fistula (AVF), colonic perforation and accidental biopsy of tissues: liver, spleen, muscle, lymph node, blood vessels, and adrenal [2]. Various rare complications, usually restricted to case reports, are perirenal urinoma, laceration of mesenteric artery, haemorrhage from lumbar artery, traumatic aneurysm of renal artery, seeding of adenocarcinoma, perforation of colon [13][14][15][16].…”

“…Injuries of extra-renal arteries by biopsy needles are very rare. We found only four cases of lumbar artery injury following renal biopsy that have been reported in literature [4][5][6][7]. Injury to mesenteric artery, [8] intercostal artery [9] and abdominal aorta [10] are the other solitary case reports of biopsy related complications.…”

“…It can also represent a complication arising in connection with structural changes in the arterial wall, aneurysm rupture, and local inflammation. Only a few cases of LA injury with subsequent massive retroperitoneal bleeding caused by a renal biopsy have been reported until today [2][3][4][5] . Suspicion for iatrogenic artery injury with active bleeding is clear indication for CT an- giography and method of choice for treatment is endovascular embolization [5] .…”

“…The most significant complication of this procedure is vascular damage with subsequent bleeding [1] . Laceration of the lumbar artery (LA) is a rare, but serious damage, causing severe retroperitoneal haemorrhage [2][3][4][5] . There are typically 4 LAs on each side, arranged similarly to the intercostal arteries.…”
